I can see why Daniel and Jeff (and property managers Raina and Dave) are superhosts! Fantastic help, very flexible with all information I needed well before my arrival. Very knowledgeable about the area, great recommendations for things to do. Daniel and Jeff stayed in touch to help make suggestions and arrangements. Raina and Dave are hands-on site property managers/arrangers of absolutely everything in the most marvelous way, with as much or as little as you need. This was my first time traveling alone not directly for work in a very long time, so I needed a lot of help. They booked a dreamlike horseback beach ride for me as well as a memorable chocolate tour and arranged all my shuttle transports. I felt safe and cared for and am very grateful, also for having been able to get necessary work done while I was there. The little house is private, CLEAN and comfortable, with fans that keep it nice and cool in the rainy season, especially at night. The grocery store just up the road has everything you need, and the jaguar rescue center is within walking distance. Nearby restaurant Pura Gula is highly recommended, my favorite! Note that most smaller establishments take only cash, easily obtained at ATM’s in Puerto Viejo. Hotel restaurants take Visa. Transport by bike, tuk tuk or taxi is easily arranged. Weather in the rainy season is damp, cool and lovely, the jungle just outside the gate incredibly beautiful. Go!!

Absolutely fantastic!

Our stay was absolutely fantastic! The hosts/greeters (Raina & Dave) were wonderful people, gave us everything we needed, & also gave phenomenal recommendations for local activities & eateries (special shout out for the recommendation to eat breakfast at Cafe Rico; best breakfast ever!). Daniel & Jeff were extremely responsive. The house is extremely authentic & rustic, but also very very comfortable. The grounds are unbelievable; literally in the middle of the jungle with wildlife all around. Very safe neighborhood with friendly people all around. Right next to Puerto Viejo & the beaches of Punta Uva. I would recommend this place over & over again.

Playa Chiquita is wild and beautiful

Daniel and Jeff answer to my booking very quickly because it was really last minute. They've been very clear and helpful in their messages, helping with everything we needed to know or do. The house was clean, practical and the room cozy. feeling outside but protecting well from mosquito so amazing! There is hot water which is a plus for a jungle home. Kitchen was well furnished and the hammock outside cool to have :) If you need to wash your clothes they are more than happy to help and will care after your laundry. The place is amazingly located in between Puerto Viejo and the end of the coast with Manzanillo and this is the perfect compromise. There is also a super market and some restaurants and shops down the road and personally my favourite little kind of quite unique beach very intimate and wild and beautiful (10 minutes walking from their house): Playa Chiquita! Jeff is been an amazing host receiving us very well and always around if we need it. Jeff and Daniel, thank you!

We woke up to sloths in the trees every morning!!

The home was wonderful. We woke up to sloths in the trees just outside every morning. The kitchen is well equipped and the reading room is adorable. There are many fans throughout the home providing a great breeze. I would be happy living here. And the other Daniel that checked us in was a great help! Review originally entered on

Howler monkeys and sloths in the backyard!

You could hear the sound of the rain and birds as if you were in the jungle, the weather was perfect in january, not too hot or humid. Howler monkeys and sloths permanently in the backyard! You'll love this place close to scenic beaches and far from city noise. 5-10 min walk to the beach and easy public transportation to Puerto Viejo and Manzanillo, about 15 min in each direction or 2 hour walk. Amazing to get around by bike there! Go to Pura Gula for delicious fresh pastas if you get a chance (right around the corner). Daniel the host was very accommodating whenever we needed anything. Thanks I truly enjoyed this peaceful getaway! Review originally entered on

Cozy and private house! Well equipped and close to beach. Rent a bike and explore around, great beaches. Punta Uva is the best! Do not miss the night life at Puerto Viejo. Daniel the house keeper is really kind. Everything was clean in the house.” Review originally entered on

Perfect location, well maintained property!

We loved staying literally in the jungle with a quaint grocery store at the end of the path leading out not to mention some excellent restaurants very close by. We woke up each morning with the Howler Monkeys and literally saw them in the trees as we had coffee. The location of Playa Chiquita is perfect as it is centrally located with five beaches to visit (Puerto Viejo, Playa Cocles, Playa Chiquita, Punta Uva, and Manzanillo). I suggest to visit the Jaguar Center first and you will learn so much about the animals in the area. This turned out to be a relaxing, educational, and wonderful time for family bonding! I would suggest at least a week if not more. After travelling, we had five full days. We packed so much in those days that we were exhausted and in bed by 9:30. It was very nice to have comfortable beds and a secured home to be in at the end of those days. We will definitely come back! Review originally entered on

A must visit!

The trip to Casa Mango was very straightforward. A bus from San Jose to Puerto Viejo, and then a short taxi ride. Playa Chiquita is wonderfully quiet and boasts two of the best restaurants around, both of which are a scant few minutes from your front door. The market is also right there and you can rent bicycles for multiple days and cycle from beach to beach. Casa Mango was just the right size for two. The kitchen was great and there's a little table on the front veranda you can easily move inside, should you want too. The only noise at night was birds or rain. Daniel was helpful and accommodating and even got us some snacks the night we arrived because we were late and the store was closed. Playa Chiquita is a must visit: good food, great beaches, a quiet community, very little traffic, and the awesome Jaguar Rescue Center. Casa Mango was the perfect place to stay to enjoy this location. Review originally entered on

We loved Casa Grande!

We loved Casa Grande. We loved Playa Chiquita. We loved Costa Rica. Casa Grande was exactly as we expected. It is tucked in the jungle where the sounds of monkies and birds and frogs were enthralling. It is within walking distance to Playa Chiquita- a beach that we, for the most part, had to ourselves. Everyone was friendly and helpful to us as we attempted (poorly) to speak Spanish. Daniel and Jeff were extremely responsive to all of our questions. They guided us from arrival to departure, offered ideas on where to go while in Costa Rica. We will come back for a longer stay next time. Review originally posted on
